I ordered a new metal trigger housing from Power Custom for .00. (you can get the metal housing, metal trigger and mag release for .00.) I measured the inside of the new poly trigger housing. It varied as much as .004" in width inside the housing. The new metal housing I got was painted inside and out.

But on the other side of the coin there are thousands of rookies out there in the market place who know nothing of the debate between plastic and metal and only view it as an introductory firearm that is sold in mass thru the various marts and that is where ruger's main market is----to the next generation of shooters and mass merchandising thru . Id take a molded plastic one over the cast piece ,but if you want a real aluminum trigger then look at a billet one made by a reputable manufacture. If you are looking for a replacement metal trigger blade that fits into the stock polymer trigger assembly there are many options. As was mentioned you can send it off the Brimstone Gunsmithing for either their Tier 2 or Tier 1 trigger jobs, either of which will replace the stock trigger with and alloy one. marvin02, That video shows the difference between an old type trigger group (aluminum housing) versus a new type with a polymer housing. I originally wanted an aluminum trigger housing but read an article saying the plastic triggers were made to hold tighter tolerances and according to Ruger it can withstand harsher abuse. If a walnut stock is important to you, I'd consider getting the sporter because looking for a reasonably priced walnut stock will take a while, I'm looking . New 10 22 owner w/ a request for help. I then realized that the bolt stop pin was sitting on the table (ruh roh).
Looking at getting another 10/22 in a trade. It has a stainless barrel and the guy say the trigger housing is stainless as well. Anybody know what the value on it would be? He's says there are no plastic parts on it. Here's a picture of it.
Yep, in black and white, Brimstone as of 02/12 quit their three tiers of 10-22 trigger work. Dang---have been going to send both triggers from my 10-22's (esp the one I have a scope on) into them. Was a 'been-gonna' thing I should have done. Hadn't looked on Brimstone's site since back last Dec or so. Also the older 10/22's had alloy trigger housings, not polymer. If you can pick up an older 10/22 cheap, go for it. To customize it you will be replacing a lot of parts anyways, and the guns are pretty impossible to destroy. The technique for welding sheet metal is to literally tack weld the entire seam. If you try to weld a continuous bead as with thicker materials, you'll dump too much heat into the metal and it will warp (and burn through).
