I ultimately made a mistake, after reading up and thinking I knew what was happening. My alternator has 3 bolt holes. One at 9, 12 and 3. The 9 bolt holds a small bracket. The 12 is the primary mounting bolt, that goes through to the bushing/nut. And the 3 O'Clock was mis identified by me, as the bolt off to 2 O clock, behind the pulley.
