On Carlons and some others, the clamps are plastic tabs that you push the cable past as it goes into the box, that then spring back and grab the cable (sometimes). On the plastic clamps, they are tricky to use; generally you have to sever a small bit of plastic at one end, then you can push the wire through the resulting gap. I often use a small flat screwdriver and give it a whack.
